Elad Canada was originally formed in 1997. They began by focusing on the development of primarily commercial properties. They exercise aggressive purchasing plans, making them one of the more competitive developers in the region. By 2008, they had already secured 5.9-million square-feet of commercial space across Canada and had built 17,000 residential units.
Since 2008 they have shifted their focus and now produce primarily residential projects. They specialize in creating mid-rise and high-rise towers, particularly as part of master-planned communities, such as the Cité Nature development in Vancouver, the Nordelec development in Montreal, and the award-winning community Emerald City in North York.
Emerald City is situated on 35 acres and will eventually include 2,790 residential units. Multiple towers, pedestrian paths and a community centre will be part of this new neighbourhood as well.
They know when they're creating these communities, they’re constructing just that: a communal network. At Emerald City, Elad has already built the 50,000-square-foot community centre, which includes a YMC-run daycare and a comprehensive aquatic centre. They’re also building roads and pathways for a pedestrian-friendly atmosphere. They know that aesthetics also play a part, having commissioned Canadian artist Douglas Coupland to create an art installation for the community.
Elad makes up for what they may lack in history with a list of impressive achievements to date. They’re creating neighbourhoods in Canada’s biggest cities and are taking steps to be inclusive and progressive. Upon completion of their buildings, they ask their residents for feedback on their new homes so they can continuously work to improve their buildings. They continue to grow, learn and build communities and the city around them.
