Waterfront Living In South-East Mississauga
Redefining Mississauga’s waterfront is exactly what a consortium of developers known as Lakeview Partners Limited (LCPL) has set out to do with their latest master-planned community gracing the shores of Lake Ontario. Lakeview Village Master-Planned Community will transform a former coal-burning generation station into a pedestrian-friendly and environmentally-sustainable community with trails and meadows. This 177-acre Master-Planned Community will include 5,000 to 7,000 new homes in a variety of housing options, including townhouses and mid-rise buildings.
A major feature of this expansive project is a 26-hectare conservation area which will be a green oasis in the heart of the city. Not to mention, there will be over 600,000 square feet of employment and institutional use and another 200,000 square feet of cultural space. Plus, Waterway Common will be a park that will link the existing park system. The waterfront will link Lakefront Promenade Park, Douglas Kennedy Park and Lakeview Park with a distinctive Boardwalk that will facilitate waterfront programming and recreational facilities. Serson Innovation Campus will also be integrated into Lakeview Village at the water’s edge with close transit accessibility.
The plan by LCPL is almost 13 years in the making and began when the Ontario Liberal Government shut down the coal plant in efforts to limit pollution. Demolition of the plant took place in 2006 and 2007 but as the plant came down, attention to the legacy of the land garnered interest. Once the property had gone through the adjudicated process by the city, Lakeview Community Partners Ltd. was selected as the development partner to purchase the land for 275 million. As it stands, the developer has called upon the provinces premier developers and construction companies to help in the revitalization plan-- the site is set to be a lively waterfront neighbourhood where people can live and play.
7 Neighbourhoods To Discover
The neighbourhood is to be divided into seven districts with their own individual functions and characteristics. Lakeview Square will be the heart of the community and the spot for shopping, dining, and entertainment in Lakeview Village. The square will also front a man-made pond where visitors can participate in paddle sports. Next to the heart of the community is another unique hub called Waterway Common.
This urban park spans the width of the development and features a man-made waterway. The water will stand as an all-season gathering space that functions as a skating rink in the winter. Serson Innovation Corridor will be the major employment district with the potential of educational uses in the future. The projected employment space for this district is 825,000 ft2. Inspiration Point will be the waterfront park with a pier extending 60 metres into Lake Ontario. The park will feature public art space, open-air music venus, and cultural pop-ups.
Ogden Village will be a thriving area intersected by Ogden Main Street and will serve as a residential district along with The Marina. The Marina will house most of the high-rise condos projects that are set to alter the Mississauga skyline forever. Ogden Green will house much of the mid-rise and townhome developments. This area will include thoughtfully landscaped streets and pedestrian-friendly walkways. Lastly, Lakeshore Gateway will act as the signature entryway into Lakeview Village. The mixed-use landmark building will be designed as a signature world-class architectural standard. This gateway district will offer amenities such as a grocery store, pharmacy, bank, and other goods-and-services.
The development will have access to the existing GO transit stations, Port Credit and Long Branch, however, neither stop will be within walking distance. MiWay will be working with the city to improve mobility options for the neighbourhood’s residents. The challenge here is to develop transit that will allow residents to travel to school or work without getting behind the wheel of a car. For those who prefer to get around with a vehicle, Lakeshore Rd and the QEW are both near to the upcoming community and will serve as a quick way to get from point A to B. Shopping can be done at the Dixie Outlet Mall and Square One which are both just minutes away. Golfing in this region is also some of the best. Next to this Mississauga master-planned community are two major Golf facilities. The Toronto Golf Club and the Lakeview Golf Course are both great options for any golf enthusiast.
