Rockwood Village Neighbourhood
This neighbourhood is located on the eastern side of Mississauga and is part of an officially designated neighbourhood called Rathwood. It is renowned for being a traditionally suburban location that is close enough to local amenities that residents will never feel isolated from the rest of the city. It enjoys close proximity to a great selection of parks and green space that includes Centennial Park - a facility that has some of the best amenities in the entire GTA.
Rockwood Village is on the east side of Mississauga, right next to the Etobicoke border. This adjacency to Toronto makes it a supremely enviable location that allows residents to travel across the entire GTA in no time. The southwestern part of this area touches on Dixie Road - an arterial roadway that can take drivers to the 401 Expressway or Queen Elizabeth Way. Both of these highways are integral transitways for commuters, so this is a great location no matter where you need to go. There are also great public transit options in the area. Dixie Road and Burnhamthorpe Road are both pivotal bus routes, and the Dixie GO Station is close enough that you can get anywhere in the city.
Despite its distinctly suburban feel, the proximity to downtown Toronto and its own local amenities gives residents a sense that they are still in civilization. Its main shopping centre is Rockwood Mall, which has all of the local necessities, shops, and restaurants. It even has a Chuck E. Cheese for the kids.
The area boasts an impressive series of parks. Rockwood Glen Park and Beechwood Park are both on the southern side of the neighbourhood. They both have open green space, and Rockwood Park has a baseball diamond. Garnetwood Park in the northern part of the neighbourhood has a baseball diamond, softball diamond, and tennis courts.
All of these parks pale in comparison to Centennial Park, which is located on the northern border of this area. Centennial Park is one of the busiest parks in the GTA and its amenities are truly impressive. It has a golf course, go-cart course, lake, multiple baseball diamonds, a ski hill, soccer field, stadium, and hockey arena. This is a premium sports facility that knows no equal in the GTA.
Rathwood, the officially designated neighbourhood that encompasses Rockwood Village, is still dominated by detached homes as they accounted for 45% of sales over the previous year, but change is coming. Over the same time period, 21% of home sales were to condo townhouses, and 19% to condos - and those numbers are expected to continue rising. The average home price in Rathwood is $755,039, which breaks down to $957,338 for freehold homes and $491,985 for condos.
The catalyst for this change will be the hotly anticipated development of Chelsea on the Green. This project will be built amongst the greenery, but it is going to blend in with its surroundings. It is rare to find a condo development in such a serene environment that is also so close to the downtown city core. This neighbourhood’s closeness to Centennial Park means its residents can enjoy activities - and with the ski hill they can do so anytime of year! The prospect of being able to invest in Chelsea on the Green is a rare opportunity, and one that should not be missed.
