Parkwoods-Donalda is a vast neighbourhood located near the eastern boundaries of North York. It is primarily a residential area, and this comes with ample shopping, as well as a concentration of some of the city’s best parks. With its border being defined by Victoria Park in the east, Lawrence Avenue East in the south, the Don River in the west, and the Ontario 401 Expressway in the north, there are also great options for getting around the GTA.
Being a large and residential neighbourhood, it should be no surprise that it’s filled with low-rise residential housing. Detached houses accounted for a total of 47% of home sales over the last year, but it appears there are more condos coming to this region. 30% of sales went to condos, with semi-detached houses making up the last large chuck with 19%. The average home price over the past year was $980,731, and this can be divided into an average freehold price of $1,291,613 and an average condo price of $375,127.
There are shopping centres speckled throughout this region. Victoria Terrace Shopping Centre is located on the southeastern corner of this neighbourhood and in addition to being anchored by a Toys R Us and No Frills, there are also services like Drive Test Centres and BLS International.
Parkway Mall is on the eastern fringes, and it is a classically styled mall. It is anchored by a Metro, Staples, Shoppers Drug Mart, and LCBO.
There are some great shopping options on the outer fringes of this area too, one of them being CF Fairview Mall. This is one of the best malls in this area, and it’s the perfect place to head if you need to pick out a new outfit as it is anchored by a Hudson’s Bay and H&M.
In addition to these great shopping centres, Wexford Heights is a commercial stretch located along Lawrence Avenue East. There are a slew of dining and drinking options along here, so it’s the perfect place to head with your friends when you’re looking to socialize. From KFC to oysters, there will certainly be something to your liking here.
This place is loaded with different parks, trails, and other green space. This is partially due to its status as a residential neighbourhood, but it is also because of the natural greenery that’s fed by the Don River.
Brookbanks Park is located along the eastern shores of the Don River. This is a densely wooded area that enjoys scenic views of the river. The trees here are so think, you’ll likely forget that you’re in the city.
Another veritable nature retreat here is Betty Sutherland Trail Park. There isn’t much here besides trees and trails, but it also has some tremendous flora, as well as the rushing waters of the Don River. This is a particularly spectacular place to watch the Don River because of the stepped stones that create mini waterfalls throughout the park.
This region’s northern border is one of the most integral highways in all of North America. The Ontario 401 Expressway runs down the centre of the GTA, and it is used by millions of Torontonians every day. This means that drivers can use this highway to easily travel across the city. The Don Valley Parkway is also adjacently located to this neighbourhood. This is amazing for motorists too because it acts as the gateway into Downtown Toronto.
With the joint use of these highways, drivers can reach Scarborough Centre in 13 minutes, North York Centre in 14 minutes, the Financial District in Downtown Toronto in 17 minutes, Vaughan Metropolitan Centre in 23 minutes, Islington City Centre in 28 minutes, and Mississauga in 28 minutes. Nowhere in the GTA is out of reach!
It’s tough to find a neighbourhood more suited to calling home than Parkwood-Donalda. Its ample shopping means that life here is incredibly convenient, and the local parks offer fantastic chances for fresh air and relaxation. The adjacent highways mean that residents can easily travel throughout the entire GTA, which is great news whether you’re commuting to work, or driving to the Leafs game.
