Bay Ridges Neighbourhood

Bay Ridges is a paradisiacal neighbourhood located on Pickering’s waterfront. It is characterised by its West Coast inspired nautical housing and its beautiful views of Lake Ontario. The neighbourhood’s western border is defined by Frenchman’s Bay - the foundation for Pickering’s settlement and the cornerstone of the city’s cultural events and festivals. Pickering is a fair distance from downtown Toronto, but its transit options make it surprisingly accessible. This makes this neighbourhood perfect for those with big city ambitions, but dreams of a small town lifestyle.

If you take a stroll throughout this neighbourhood, you’ll almost think that you’re looking across the Pacific Ocean. This is because the Nautical Village project transformed the neighbourhood into a nautically themed area, including the houses that were inspired by the iconic West Coast row housing in cities like San Francisco. This aesthetic matches perfectly with the boats that line the coast of Frenchman’s Bay. The beautiful surroundings are paired with the cuisine that’s available at one of the many gourmet restaurants in the area. A few highlights are Port Restaurant and The Waterfront - two amazing bistros with high end eclectic fare and amazing views of Lake Ontario.

Life Style at Bay Ridges Neighbourhood

The bordering Frenchman’s Bay is a magnificent sight, and also the foundation of Pickering’s settlement. After the Seven Years’ War, British settlers built a saw mill and granary adjacent to the bay, establishing the beginnings of Pickering in the process. Residential development on the point, however, was not established until the 1960’s. Since that time, it’s become one of the most sought after neighbourhoods in the region. It is also the home to many events and festivals throughout the year. One such festival is the Frenchman’s Bay Festival that happens every year in June. The festival is centralized around Millennium Square and showcases live music, beach volleyball, picnics, and much more. It is a festival that celebrates Pickering’s community and natural beauty.

The city of Pickering seems like it’s an eternity away from Toronto when you look at a map, but thanks to the infrastructure surrounding the GTA, it’s a lot closer than you think! The northern border of this neighbourhood is defined by the 401 Expressway. This makes access to the GTA a whole lot easier. The Pickering GO Station also falls within Bay Ridges’ boundaries. From here, you can travel straight to downtown Toronto’s Union Station in under 40 minutes. Imagine working that fast paced city life, and afterward being transported back to your waterfront paradise. For many, this is a dream come true.

Detached houses are still the most common source of home sales in this area, accounting for 38% in the last twelve months, while condos accounted for 29% and semi-detached houses for 11%. The average home price over the last year was $585,253, when broken down this translates into an average freehold price of $672,176, while the average condo price was $395,371.

There aren’t many chances to live in a place like this neighbourhood. This community offers an idyllic setting to raise a family, or just unwind after a long day. The stunning views from Millennium Square are the perfect place to take an after work stroll as you watch the sunset over Lake Ontario. The smaller size of the community offers a chance to make some real friends in the area, and each year in June you can celebrate that friendship at the Frenchman’s Bay Festival. You don’t need to give up on your aspirations of making it in the big city when you live here, because downtown Toronto is still less than an hour away. There aren’t many places like this, and you shouldn’t pass up the opportunity to be a part of it.
