This corner has a Walkscore of 98/100, meaning that it’s a Walker’s Paradise. The Queen West area is renowned for its shopping, so this score makes perfect sense. There’s also a Metro Grocery Store on the northeast corner of the intersection, which gives locals direct access to any odds and ends they might need. Dufferin and Queen is also central to several different bank branches, as well as a Home Hardware, meaning you can really take care all of your chores without getting behind the wheel.

Despite not having direct access to the Toronto subway system, this intersection also achieves a near perfect 98/100 on its Transit Score, meaning it has world class transit. This score reflects the wealth of street level public transit in the area. Queen has a dedicated street car line that travels from Etobicoke in the west all the way to the fringe of Scarborough in the east. Commuters can also go a few blocks south to take the King streetcar, which now provides express service down the King corridor. This makes getting to the downtown core much more convenient. There’s also north/south bus service on major streets like Dufferin and Lansdowne.

Thanks to the public transit and roadways, this intersection is also accessible to the downtown core, which makes up a huge portion of the city’s employment. There were 544,4810 jobs in the downtown core in 2017, which was an increase of 6.5% from the previous year. The heart of downtown can be reached in 25 minutes from here by public transit or 16 minutes by car.

The Site For A New Transit Station

Liberty Village’s revitalization largely relied on condo development, and that trend is continuing today. 86% of home sales in the area last year were for condos, followed by condo townhouses with 11% of total sales. It’s an ideal neighbourhood for drivers, as the Gardiner Expressway is located on its southern border.

With the dramatic increase in the area’s population, the city knows it needs to plan for improved public transit. Fortunately, the city’s SmartTrack plan will be taking advantage of the rail corridor that cuts through Queen and Dufferin. The City of Toronto and Metrolinx will build a new station where the rail line intersects with King Street, giving all of the local residents a better way for traveling across town.

There’s no doubt that this intersection is central to some of the city’s most dynamic regions and neighbourhoods. Liberty Village has become a sought after urban enclave close to the city’s waterfront, and West Queen West attracts many of the coolest bars, restaurants, and people from all over the city. Thanks to the excellent transit in the area, the downtown core, and its abundant employment, is only a few minutes away. This really is one of the best places in the city to live, work, and play.
