This intersection is adjacent to one of the most vibrant and colourful neighbourhoods in the GTA, and its centrality makes the entire city at your fingertips.

Yonge and Wellesley Intersection

At first glance, this seems like a pretty unassuming intersection, but Yonge and Wellesley Intersection is one of the most interesting crossroads in the City of Toronto.

Its surrounding neighbourhoods are some of the most quintessentially Toronto locales, which makes this place an intriguing kernel of the city. It is well served by public transit, and residents can find ways to make it across the entire city. It is also equidistant to the two university campuses, making it a great option for income properties.

This intersection is in close proximity to some of the most well known Toronto neighbourhoods. It is directly east of The Village, otherwise known as Church and Wellesley. At one time, The Village acted as a safe haven for the LGBTQ community, and in doing so it propelled Toronto’s reputation into being one of the most accepting and tolerant cities in the world. Today, everyone is welcomed to the region, and people from every race, creed, and orientation come here to have fun.

Easily Accessible

This intersection has a Walkscore of 99/100, which means that all of your daily chores can be accomplished without the use of a car. It also has a perfect Transit Score with 98/100. This is predictable because of Wellesley Station, which is connected to the Yonge/University line. This subway line loops around the Financial District in the south, and stretches up toward North York. This line connects with numerous employment areas, especially considering that North York is swiftly expanding its City Centre. There is also plenty of street level transit that serves the major local roadways like Yonge, Wellesley, and Bay streets.

Area Highlights

  • Fantastic access to public transit
  • Short walk to University of Toronto
  • Only steps away from Ryerson University
  • Plenty of dining options

In Toronto’s Urban Core

This intersection is in close proximity to some of the most well known Toronto neighbourhoods. It is directly east of The Village, otherwise known as Church and Wellesley. At one time, The Village acted as a safe haven for the LGBTQ community, and in doing so it propelled Toronto’s reputation into being one of the most accepting and tolerant cities in the world. Today, everyone is welcomed to the region, and people from every race, creed, and orientation come here to have fun.

The Garden District is to the south, and it is one of the most diverse and vibrant neighbourhoods in the city, and it is also one of the oldest, being subdivided when Toronto was first incorporated as a city. Yorkville is to the north, and it is commonly regarded as one of Toronto’s most affluent neighbourhoods. Yorkville is home to some of the most hotly anticipated projects in the city, such as The One located at 1 Bloor Street West, which will be the tallest skyscraper in Canada. The Discovery District is to the west, and it’s home to a tight cluster of downtown hospitals. Toronto General Hospital, Mt. Sinai Hospital, and the Hospital for Sick Children (locally known as Sick Kids) can all be found here, and they’re only a fifteen minute walk from Yonge and Wellesley.

Everything You Need At Your Fingertips

When you approach this junction, it almost feels as though you’re stepping 20 years into the past. Aside from the Starbucks located on the northeast corner, this intersection is filled with independent restaurants that feature food from all over the world. What’s unique about these eateries is their utter lack of trendiness. They all appear as they would have at the turn of the millennium. Places like Not Just Noodles, Chopsticks House, and Sushi Garden are straight up restaurants where you can get good, basic food - a rarity in modern Toronto. There aren’t any clothing stores in the direct vicinity, but the area has multiple grocery stores, an LCBO, a Dollarama, and a local bakery.

Yonge and Wellesley is a staple intersection in Toronto because of its roots in Toronto’s past. Everywhere you look, you’ll be able to see a part of the city’s history. Victorian row houses, 1970’s era mid-rise office buildings, and modern glass and steel condo buildings can all be found here. It is also a transit hub that is capable of connecting you to the entire city. This is a great place to look for condos, not just for investment, but for living.
